WP3 Activity 3.1. SEEU Workshop with Program country institutions for adoption of best practices on University Governance.

Under the framework of the STAND project, the South East European University (SEEU) hosted a three-day workshop on Leadership and Financial Management covering WP3 Activity 3.1. workshops with Program country institutions for adoption of best practices on University Governance.

The day started with welcoming remarks by the Vice Rector of SEEU, Prof. Dr. Besa Arifi briefly introduced the participants to the agenda for the following days and presented the best practices of SEEU with the SEEU being one of the best examples of University Governance.

Prof. Dr. Jelena Djokic from IBC-M delivered a welcoming speech on behalf of the STAND project management team, expressing gratitude to all consortiums for accomplishing the project activities.

Prof. Dr. Sc Bujar Gallopeni from IBC-M presented the project’s goals and objectives.

The Rector of the South East European University, Acad. Prof. Dr. Abdylmenaf Bexheti, presented the topic “University Governance and Management – Specifics and Performance.” He presented the case of the South East European University case, about how it was established, its statute, autonomy, financing, and accountability

The first block of the day started with an overview of methods used in the workshop and expectations towards participants presented by Prof. Dr. Besa Arifi, followed by presentations from EUA representatives Thomas Estermann, Director of Governance, Funding and Public Policy Development at European University Association, as well as the Deputy Director Enora Bennetot Pruvot. Under the topic of the Evolution of university governance in Europe, they presented an overview of university governance developments and vision trends for 2030.

The second topic was University leaders today, where an instant survey was carried out among participants to understand more about the scope of responsibilities and roles of the participants at their institutions.

The second day started with the 2nd block of the workshop, consisting of presentations, discussions and group work led by EUA representatives. First presentation held was Dynamics with governing bodies with focus on Roles of the governing bodies: challenges & good practice and Focus on external members: practice and recommendations. Mr. Estermann explained Executive Leadership accountability towards University Governance bodies, stating that there are several forms of selection; among them it is usually option for governance bodies to express no-confidence and call for selection/election of new executive leader according to process set out in university statutes, it can be linked to mandate cycles or achievement of institutional strategic objectives may be linked to additional remuneration of executive leader.

The last day of the workshop started with an online presentation from our partner UniFg. Mr. Mr. Fedele Colantuono presented the External funding for Italian Universities by the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility Plan.

The last presentation was Financial autonomy at University of Zagreb presented by Prof. Dr. Irena Zmak.

In the end of the day, there was a project management meeting held with all participants who were present and those who joined online. Prof. Dr. Mihone Kerolli, STAND Project coordinator from IBC-M.
